Database Administrator and Developer

It's an exciting time here at TouchBistro as we continue to expand our Internal Systems team. We are a bunch of social, hospitable and passionate individuals looking to continue to evolve our product into a World Class POS system and brand. With that being said, we are looking to hire for some mission critical roles to join us during this exciting period of growth at our Toronto, Ontario Headquarters.

TouchBistro is looking for an experienced Database Administrator and Developer to join our expanding Internal Systems, Development and IT teams. This individual will have experience with both SQL Server and especially PostgreSQL, along with some design and development experience. You will be working directly with our Development and IT teams, and be working alongside another Database Administrator and Developer and be responsible for over a TB of data. Projects will include: maintaining live databases, designing and development of new databases which could include: writing complex queries, writing stored procedures, optimization by designing table layouts, designing and developing tools or queries, etc. Does this sound like the right challenge for you?!

  • Work with software architects and developers to plan, design and optimize databases
  • Create performance optimizations and monitoring of queries, indexes, etc.
  • Monitor and Test database backups
  • Design and Document databases including tables, keys, stored procedures, views, indexes
  • Design and Plan disaster recovery plans and perform periodic testing
  • Create and Maintain scripts to perform bulk data updates and scrubbing



  • 1+ years experience with PostgresSQL in a company setting is a requisite
  • 5+ years of experience working with SQL databases in a company setting is must-have
  • Experience designing and developing databases from scratch
  • Hands-on experience with regular maintenance, query optimization, logical design, configuration and upgrading
  • Strong understanding of vacuum, reindexing and archiving
  • PostgresSQL scaling and capacity planning
  • Experience configuring database monitoring and alerting
  • Ability to Build and optimize SQL stored procedures and functions
  • Great communication skills
  • Exposure/Experience with MSSQL would be nice-to-have
  • Experience with AWS RDS/Aurora would be an asset
  • Linux experience is an added plus
  • Mastery of some automation language (Python, Shell, Perl etc.)
