Director of Software Engineering

We are looking for a Director of Software Development at our Toronto office located at King and Spadina in Toronto. The ideal individual will have 10+ years of overall experience in software development having performed roles as a hands-on developer, a team lead to other developers, and a manager to other developers and team leads in the past. TouchBistro is expanding the Software Development Team, therefore your initial focus will be on building and growing this team to deliver at scale. Reporting to the CTO, you will be working with both Software Development Managers and Team Leads to achieve these goals. Our technology stack includes ReactJS, NodeJS and Swift.

  • Report to the CTO and enable them to deliver on the company objectives
  • Set and Drive team performance goals, assess and coach on individual performance goals
  • Partner with the CTO and Architecture in ensuring the team aligns on technologies and talent
  • Champion and Inspire a highly skilled, mixed discipline Software Development team
  • Manage and Lead your Software Development Managers to nurture their teams to deliver high quality solutions at high velocity
  • Establish an organizational structure within the team including roles and responsibilities that strikes the right balance between rigid and agile
  • Collaborate with Product to ensure that the team is structured adequately to meet and deliver on the roadmap
  • Oversee hiring of talent to the team
  • Help Foster a diverse and inclusive environment in both our hiring practices and day-to-day activities



  • 10+ years experience in the software development industry
  • 5+ years experience in a technical leadership role for software development
  • Hands-on experience delivering web applications, mobile applications and/or other software using a number of different technologies and/or platforms
  • A strong desire to produce high performing software with a focus on quality, speed, and improving best practices
  • Excellent written and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management in groups and one-on-one
  • Experience either managing or participating in large software development teams teams that can deliver at scale
  • Diverse work experience in terms of products and industries
  • Experience with agile development practices, both process and technical: Kanban/Scrum cadence, test driven development, refactoring, evolving architectures
