Software Development Manager - R&D

We are looking for a Software Development Manager - R&D at our second office located at King and Portland in Toronto. The ideal individual will have 3+ years of direct people management and a web or mobile development background to lead our Gen 2 teams. You must not be fazed by change as we are in a period of scaling. Our Gen 2 team is composed of 15 developers, so you must have strong people management skills as this role will include hiring, one-on-one sessions, mentoring programs and personal development goals. You will be responsible for meeting with our product team and ensuring that roadmap timelines for development are feasible and that your team is staying on track. We have an Agile/Scrum environment with 2 week sprints, and are building a culture of test driven development. Our technology stack includes ReactJS, NodeJS and Swift.

  • Develop and Mentor employees on the teams
  • Lead and Inspire a highly skilled, mixed discipline Software Engineering team
  • Set and Drive team performance goals, assess and coach on individual performance goals
  • Collaborate with the Product team to help define, document and manage changes to project scope and objectives
  • Help Grow our developer culture through mentoring and hiring the best people
  • Align hiring plans with product and development roadmap



  • 3+ years experience in a technical leadership and people management position
  • A hands-on web, mobile or software development background
  • A strong desire to produce high performing software with a focus on quality, speed, and improving best practices
  • Excellent written and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management in groups and one-on-one
  • Experience in managing software development teams of 10+ people
  • Experience with agile development practices, both process and technical: Kanban/Scrum cadence, test driven development, refactoring, evolving architectures
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies
